Tapestry of Life

Have you heard the expression that God is weaving together our lives to make a beautiful tapestry in Heaven?  I believe this analogy is true and I believe those that have decided to follow Jesus will one day see this beautify tapestry of life.

tapestry-backsideHowever, while we are on earth we see the back side of the tapestry, the work in progress side.  The back side looks like a mess with no pattern or reason to the design, threads are crisscrossing over top each other, thread colors clash with each other, thread are tied together with ugly knots and many threads are just hanging down from the back, some having never been punched through to the beautiful side.  The analogy is that each thread of the tapestry represents a human life which we see on the back side of the tapestry and it looks chaotic.  We can’t even figure out what thread represents our life.

I think when we get to Heaven we will be able to see the final work of art that God is weaving now.  I think each person will be able to see their thread of their life on the finished side of the tapestry and appreciate how beautifully and skillfully it is woven into the design.  And though we cannot see the beauty now, we can choose to be a part of God’s beautiful work or we can choose to remain a dangling thread that will one day be cut off the backside and thrown into the fire.  The thread that God uses is the thread of a life that is surrendered to God by faith and is obediently following His word and way.  The key to having your thread of life woven into the tapestry is to stop looking at your own thread and start focusing on the hand of God that is doing the weaving process.  Allow God to weave your thread into the thread of other lives and you will be a blessing to yourself and others.

A life of faith in Christ may seem chaotic and even non-productive from the back side of the tapestry but from Heaven’s side, the thread of our life will be a beauty that shines eternally for all to see.

My life is but a weaving,
Between my Lord and me;
I cannot chose the colors,
He worketh steadily.

Off times He weaveth sorrow,
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Not ’til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weavers’s skillful hands,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern, He has planned.

The shuttles of His purpose move
To carry out His own design;
Seek not too soon to disapprove
His work, nor yet assign

Dark motives, when, with silent tread,
You view some sombre fold;
For lo, within each darker thread
There twines a thread of gold.

Spin cheerfully, Not tearfully,
He knows the way you plod;
Spin carefully, Spin prayerfully,

But leave the thread with God.
