Restrainers vs Suppressors

Psalm 52 NASB

Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?
The lovingkindness of God endures all day long.

 

Your tongue devises destruction,
Like a sharp razor, O worker of deceit.

 

You love evil more than good,
Falsehood more than speaking what is right.
Selah.

 

You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.

 

But God will break you down forever;
He will snatch you up and tear you away from your tent,
And uproot you from the land of the living.
Selah.

 

The righteous will see and fear,
And will laugh at him, saying,

 

“Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge,
But trusted in the abundance of his riches
And was strong in his evil desire.”

 

But as for me,
I am like a green olive tree in the house of God;
I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.

 

I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it,
And I will wait on Your name,
for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.

The Spiritual battle for the soul of man has been going on since the beginning of time when Adam and Eve were first tempted by Satan to sin.  But now that the “Church Age” is nearly complete and the Church will soon be “Rapture” to Heaven to be with the Lord, Satan knows his time to rule the earth is coming to an end.  Satan knows the he doesn’t have much time left to deceive men and keep them captive to sin so his forces of darkness are mounting a final assault to “suppress” the truth, while God’s people are praying and abiding in the Holy Spirit, in order to “restrain and expose” the lies of the world, the flesh and the devil.  The battle is heating up and you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Once the Church is removed, by Jesus at the rapture, the restraining influence of the Holy Spirit against the lies of Satan will be removed and Satan will proceed on to the stage of earth as the Antichrist where he will reign by the “sword of Allah” for 3 1/3 years with signs and wonders.  Then after 3 1/2 years he will commit the “abomination of desolation” and declare himself god, in the Jewish temple of God.  The last 3 1/2 years will be a time of “great” tribulation as God’s wrath is poured out upon the earth against those who love the world, the flesh and the devil.  After these 7 years of tribulation, Satan will be bound in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years, while Christ rules on earth with a rod of iron (this is known as the Millennium period).  After the 1,000 years, Satan is loosed and he causes another brief battle.  In the end, Satan, the fallen angles and all unbelieving people are cast into the lake of fire to be tormented eternally.  And God creates a new cosmos and earth where the good angles and believing people will enjoy the Lord Jesus Christ forever.  Capisce?

2 Thessalonians 2: 1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?

2 Thessalonians 2: 6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; 9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.

It is true that the Church is the restraining influence of evil in the world, under the power of prayer and power of the Holy Spirit.  But I have recently been doing some studying of 2 Thessalonians in Greek and the passage “he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way”  should read “the restraining will continue until one comes into being in the middle“.  The one who comes in the middle of the Tribulation is Satan, he somehow enters into the Antichrist and appears to resurrect him and then the Antichrist enters the temple and declares himself to be god.  It is Michael and the good Angels who restrains Satan during the first 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation and cast Satan down to earth at the mid-way point of the Tribulation.

Revelation 12:  7And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, 8and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. 9And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

And I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast (Revelation 13:3).

This does not change my belief in an imminent pre-Tribulation rapture but it does mean that the revealing of the Antichrist will not be known to the Jews until he declares himself god in the temple.  For the first 3 1/2 years I think the Jews will welcome the Antichrist as their Messiah but realize he isn’t when he declares that he is god.  This is the reason they crucified Jesus, because He claimed to be equal to the Father.  The Jews currently don’t believe that the Messiah is equal to God but is a prophet like Moses.  Yet, after 3 1/2 years of hiding in Petra and listening to the witness of the 144,000 Jews, a remnant of Jews at the close of the Tribulation will look upon Jesus whom they pierced and realize He is their Messiah!

Here is what the Bible says about the suppressing influences of the world, the flesh and the devil.

Romans 1:18-32 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.   24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

      26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

 Love the God of the Bible, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, three in One  Love the world or love a god that is NOT the God of the Bible
 Contradict lies, only one absolute truth – Jesus  Coexist with every religion, truth is relative
 preach a repentance of sin  preach a tolerance of sin
 one way to God, salvation by grace thru faith in Jesus Christ  all ways lead to God, define your own Jesus, works salvation
 peace with God in Heaven to those in relatonship with Jesus Christ  peace with men on earth by human means, buy a “works” religion
 God’s will be done, Thy Kingdom come  man can figure it out without God, New World Order
 In God We Trust  In Government We Trust
 pro life, sanctity of life  pro choice, murder the unborn
 sanctity of marriage and sanctity of the family  sexually defile the body, destroy the family
 humble, forgiving, loving, honest  arrogant, boastful, wicked, evil
 trust and obey  works righteousness 
 cling to God for His grace and loving kindness  bow to man under his control of the world
 waiting for the blessed Hope of Christ appearing to come and take them to Heaven  waiting for the evil one, the Antichrist, to come and take over the world
 worship given to God in Spirit and Truth  worship given to the god of this world by feelings of emotions or under compliance to law
 concerned with holiness  concerned with happiness
 obey God over men. God’s authority rules!  obey men over God, man’s authority rules
