Have you ever thought that you are like a large mouth bass that is on the prowl for “good food” that satisfies your soul but you are constantly being tempted to bite on lures of plastic and shiny metal objects that only snare you and get you hooked and hanging on the end of a line?  Well this is the reality of living a life without Christ.  An unbeliever is hooked on the distracting lures of this world instead of feeding on the good and satisfying food of Christ.

The answer to this problem is found in what Jesus said in John 6:35 “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.“ 

To the woman at the well, Jesus explained it this way in John 4:13-14  “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;  but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

Again Jesus explained to His disciples that the food that satisfies the soul comes from God in John 4:31-34 “31Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” 34Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.”

And to Nicodemus, Jesus explained it this way in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.“

If you are hungry and thirsty for the true food of life, it can only be found in the giver of life, Jesus Christ.  By grace through faith in Jesus Christ a person can be “born again” and receive a new life in Christ Jesus.  If you believe that Jesus died for your sin and you accept the gift of His eternal life, then the Holy Spirit will come dwell in you to comfort you and guide you in a new life in Christ.  It is the Holy Spirit dwelling within the believer that enables a person to understand God’s word and discern God’s will for his life.  It is by dying to self and living in Christ that we avoid the lures and temptations of the world and we enjoy eating the good Spiritual food from God that satisfies our soul and we enjoy living the good life from God that stores up treasures in Heaven.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
